Out with the Old, In with the Inspired: Our Designers’ Top Picks for 2026
As we look ahead to 2026, one thing is clear: interior design is moving away from cool, minimal, and generic and toward spaces that feel layered, expressive, and deeply lived-in. We asked our Design Consultants what they’re ready to leave behind and what they’re excited to embrace in the new year. As you would expect, each designer brings their own unique perspective; but together, their insights point to a shared desire for warmth, personality, and thoughtful detail.
Here’s what’s out, what’s in, and what our team is loving for 2026.
Rich, expressive, and full of depth, Stroheim’s latest collection features warm, luxurious textiles, from layered florals to rich textures, designed to bring character and comfort to any space.
Ana: Warmth, Texture, & the Power of Small Details
Out: Grey, cold spaces, lifeless interiors, and spa blue.
In: Small, sculptural decorative lamps tucked into every corner, rich patterned fabrics, color, and warm, luxurious textiles like velvet, mohair and wool.
Designer Picks: Tiny decorative lamps (available at U-Fab and Curated Furnishings), the newest Stroheim collection featuring rich florals and plaids
Ana sees 2026 as a return to interiors that feel collected and expressive. Pattern is key, and texture does the heavy lifting to create depth, warmth, and a sense of comfort that instantly makes a space feel lived in.
Cherisse: Color, Contrast & Confident Layering
Out: Grey.
In: Pops of fun color, unexpected color combinations, and spaces layered with pattern, texture, and mixed finishes.
For Cherisse, 2026 is all about bringing joy and energy back into interiors. She’s excited to see rooms that feel dynamic and personal, where color is used confidently and layered details create visual interest from every angle.
Warm, layered, and grounded in nature. Color-drenched brown walls and bookshelves set the tone for a richly textured space, with an unexpected mix of drapery fabrics, natural greenery, and a thoughtful blend of new and antique pieces. A perfect reflection of Diana’s cozy, collected approach to design.
Diana: Cozy, Nature-Inspired Spaces
Out: Greys, overly neutral rooms, and cool blues.
In: Warmth, layered and cozy interiors, thoughtful pattern mixing, and palettes rooted in browns, greens, and nature-inspired tones.
Designer Picks: Velvets and tapestry-inspired fabrics, plus wallpapers from Thibaut and Fabricut, perfect for adding warmth, pattern, and dimension.
Diana is drawn to spaces that feel grounded and inviting. Rich textures and organic colors create a sense of calm while still allowing for personality and depth.
Emily: Personality Over Perfection
Out: Stark white (especially cabinets!), overly simplified, generic spaces that lack character.
In: Bringing the outdoors in with earthy, natural elements, layered textures, and cozy nooks designed for real living.
Emily is focused on creating homes that feel personal and intentional. In 2026, she’s all about adding warmth and interest through natural materials and thoughtful layering, and creating spaces that feel designed, not staged.
Hailie: Pattern That Makes a Statement
Out: Empty walls, plain ceilings.
In: Wallpaper that’s bold, colorful, textured and full of pattern. (Bonus points for wallpaper on the ceiling, creating an unexpected moment against neutral moulding and architectural details!)
Designer Picks: Our entire library of wallpaper, with Thibaut offering the widest range (and best florals, in her opinion!).
Hailie loves using pattern to transform a space and isn’t afraid of making a statement. Florals, in particular, stand out as a personal favorite for their depth of color, intricate detail, and connection to nature.
Classic pattern with timeless appeal. Plaid upholstery brings warmth, texture, and a sense of personality to this ottoman, proving that traditional patterns feel right at home in 2026 interiors.
Julie: Timeless Pattern with a Classic Point of View
Out: Spaces with no personality.
In: Plaid is back, especially in wool and cotton!
Julie is excited to see classic, Ralph Lauren-inspired patterns reemerge in a fresh way. For her, plaid brings instant warmth, offering a perfect balance of tradition and comfort.
This plaid-forward living room showcases how classic patterns can feel fresh and expressive when thoughtfully layered, reinforcing why plaid remains a standout trend for 2026. Design: Avrea & Company; Photography: Nathan Schroder Photography.
Amy: Plaid!
In: Plaid, everywhere.
Amy agrees with Julie: plaid is back in a big way for 2026, and it’s more versatile than ever. While timeless at its core, plaid is experiencing a fresh resurgence thanks to bolder applications and more adventurous styling. From window treatments and upholstered furniture to pillows and wallpaper, plaid can do far more than play a supporting role.
Amy encourages leaning in: pattern drench an entire room in the same plaid for a cohesive, high-impact look, or mix it with varying patterns for added contrast and depth. The result is a space that feels layered, intentional, and full of personality.
