One Frame, Three Ways: The Thayer Chair by Wesley Hall

We’re continuing our spotlight on Wesley Hall, one of our most trusted upholstery partners (and a designer favorite here at U-Fab.) With bench-made craftsmanship, a rich library of fabrics, and an unwavering attention to detail, Wesley Hall pieces have lasting appeal. Many of our Design Consultants even have their frames at home.

One of the most-loved? The Thayer Chair.

Upholstered Wesley Hall Thayer Chair with tailored lines, shown in a light fabric with a skirted base.

The Wesley Hall Thayer Chair features clean lines, a timeless shape, and is endlessly customizable. It’s a favorite frame among our Design Consultants.

With its clean lines, generous seat, and timeless shape, the Thayer is endlessly versatile, equally at home in a formal living room or a cozy corner. To show just how adaptable this frame can be, we asked three of our Design Consultants to imagine their dream version of the Thayer. From performance velvets to bold florals and layered trim details, each one brings their own take on how this versatile frame can work in real life.

Keep scrolling to see how Diana, Cherisse, and Ana would style the Thayer in their own spaces.

Diana’s Dream Den Chair

Body Fabric: Lacosta Velvet in Caramel (Performance Fabric)

Trim: 4” Navajo Jute in Nile (Fringe Market), placed 1" above the bottom edge

Back Cushion Fabric: Beaumont Vase in Document (P Kaufmann) with Define welt cord in Emerald (Fabricut)

Diana’s styling has a warm, vintage-inspired feel. She chose performance velvet in a rich caramel tone to pair with the green walls of her den (painted in Sherwin Williams Edamame), creating a cozy and inviting backdrop. The floral back cushion fabric adds a nostalgic touch, while the emerald cord gives a subtle hit of color and polish. “This would be my dream den chair, placed in the corner,” she says. "A great, very comfortable chair, perfect for curling up with a book.”

Cherisse’s Cozy Reading Nook

Body Fabric: Zenyatta in Eucalyptus (Wesley Hall)

Trim: Yonder View in Bison (S. Harris)

Ottoman: Jamestown (Wesley Hall) in Penpal Forrest (Swavelle/Mill Creek)

Accent Table: Quarry drink table in Honey (Curated Furnishings)

Accessories: Bone Inlay Box, Adana Vase (Curated Furnishings)

Cherisse leans into earthy tones and layered textures for a space that feels inviting and well-collected. With the ottoman and drink table close by, this setup creates the perfect nook for morning coffee or an evening unwind. “I would put this chair in a cozy reading nook, paired with Wesley Hall’s Jamestown ottoman,” she says. “The Quarry drink table in Honey completes the space, accessorized with a bone inlay round box to hide some treats and an Adana vase filled with fresh greenery.”

Ana’s Versatile Floral Pairing

Body Fabric: Corneila in Grey and Gold (Thibaut, Chestnut Hill by Anna French Collection)

Ottoman: Thayer Ottoman (Wesley Hall)

Accent Table: Marchand Side Table (Modern History)

Rug: LZ-06 in Ash (Loloi)

Ana’s design pairs two Thayers in a statement floral linen fabric with the matching ottoman and a timeless Modern History side table placed in between. The large-scale pattern has room to breathe on the Thayer’s silhouette, turning the pair into focal points. “The Thayer transitions beautifully from traditional to transitional, and mixes well with antiques and clean-lined pieces. It’s one of our most versatile chairs. It can be dressed up, lounged in, used as a reading chair, or a place to land and have a conversation,” Ana says. “It’s a wonderful piece for so many different spaces.”
