A Home for Real Life: Thoughtful Design Meets Family Function

When a Richmond family set out to furnish their newly renovated home near Willow Oaks, they knew exactly what they wanted: a space that could handle the energy of everyday life with children, feel warm and welcoming for entertaining friends, and still reflect their personal history and style. Interior designer Casey Hawthorne brought their vision to life with a thoughtful blend of custom furnishings, durable fabrics, heirloom accents, and a whole lot of heart.

A lively dining room designed to serve double duty: beautiful enough for entertaining, durable enough for everyday family life. The graphic Thibaut wallpaper adds personality, while performance fabric on the chairs ensures easy cleanup.

Function First

Every space in the home was designed to serve a purpose. In the foyer, Casey transformed what was once a dark and dated entry into a bright and inviting welcome with a new front door, herringbone oak floors, and a whimsical Anna French wallpaper on the ceiling. A statement light from Curry & Company added even more personality to the refreshed space.

In the dining room, the hub for everything from family dinners to kids' homework, Casey embraced practicality without sacrificing beauty. A graphic Thibaut wallpaper provides a playful backdrop, while custom drapery with hardware from U-Fab and a durable Crypton performance fabric on the dining chairs make the room easy to live in. The dining table from Four Hands and updated seating from Jeffan provide plenty of room for gathering.

This multifunctional dining space reveals layered textures and thoughtful design details, from the custom drapery and hardware to the mix of classic and modern furnishings.

Designed for Gathering

The living room is where the family spends most of their time, so comfort and durability were key. A CR Laine sofa in “Warm Welcome Sky” anchors the space, flanked by Enzo swivel chairs from the same line, upholstered in Paonessa Coral, a family-friendly InsideOut Performance fabric. The effect is cozy, colorful, and completely livable.

Over the sofa, a bridge painting from Yellow Door Art makes a bold statement. Throughout this space and the rest of the home, heirloom artwork passed down from the homeowner’s grandmother carries deep personal meaning

Personal Retreats

Upstairs, the couple created spaces that serve both shared and personal needs. In the primary bedroom, a Halston king bed by Universal Furniture offers a stylish, streamlined silhouette, complemented by soft custom drapery and tailored hardware from U-Fab.

Across the hall, a sunny “Ladies Lounge” gives the homeowner a space of her own: a quiet place to relax, plan, and recharge. A CR Laine Studio Settee in Gordon Square Sunset provides the perfect perch, paired with a desk from Villa & House and more art from Yellow Door.

Crafted with Intention

Throughout the home, durable performance fabrics, quality craftsmanship, and custom furnishings helped bring Casey’s design vision to life.
