2016 - 2026Celebrating 10 Years on Broad Street
A look back at where we’ve been, how we’ve grown, and what’s ahead.
It started with a few bolts of fabric…
In October 2008, U-Fab opened at 106 S. Robinson Street with a 1,000-square-foot fabric showroom and a small upholstery shop.
To say we were figuring things out as we went would be an understatement. After a slow start, U-Fab found its footing as a discount fabric store, focusing on overstocks and remnants. The $2.99-a-yard Remnant Room quickly became our calling card, and before long, our little store on Robinson Street was growing.
Over the next several years, U-Fab continued to evolve. We expanded our fabric selection, added window treatments and custom furniture, grew our reupholstery and sewing capabilities, and opened locations in Charlottesville and Midlothian.
With every new idea and every new chapter, U-Fab was becoming something a little different than the business that was born on Robinson Street.
A New Chapter
In the fall of 2016, U-Fab moved to 7921 West Broad Street.
It was a big leap from the tiny storefront where we began. At 28,000 square feet, our new home gave U-Fab room to bring our showroom, warehouse, fabric outlet and workroom together under one roof, while creating space for a much larger selection of furniture and home furnishings.
But this move meant more than simply having more space.
It gave us the opportunity to imagine what U-Fab could become.
Growing Into U-Fab Interiors
With more space came more possibilities.
Having our showroom, workroom, warehouse and fabric outlet under one roof changed what we could do and how we could do it. With our upholsterers, seamstresses and fabric team working together in the same space, communication became easier and opened the door to even more custom fabrication opportunities.
Our furniture collection grew, as did our selections of fabric and wallpaper. We expanded our window treatment offerings, added more custom fabrication solutions, and continued to find new ways to bring everything together for our customers, backed by decades of design and textile expertise.
We also made room for community beyond the showroom. We hosted events, welcomed guests like HGTV designer Vern Yip and brought our community together through events like CHAIRity, our fundraising galas benefitting CARITAS.
What started as a place to find a few bolts of discount fabric or have a family heirloom reupholstered had become something more: a place to find inspiration, ask questions, explore ideas, and get expert guidance.
Since then we’ve continued to grow, becoming a trusted resource for Richmond homeowners looking to create a beautiful home and earning recognition from the local design community along the way. In 2023, we introduced our sister store, Curated Furnishings, giving Richmond families another place to discover furniture and home decor with the same commitment to quality and craftsmanship as U-Fab.
Ten Years Later
Through all of our growth, one thing hasn’t changed: our approach has always been personal.
From one location to the next, that has been at the heart of everything we do, and it wouldn’t be possible without the people behind U-Fab.
Our designers take the time to listen, ask questions, share their expertise and help customers find the right direction for their projects.
Our upholsterers and seamstresses bring decades of experience to each and every project, turning ideas into finished pieces with impeccable attention to detail.
Our dedicated delivery and installation crews know our products and services as well as anyone else on our team and make sure that the same care our customers experience in the showroom follows their projects all the way home.
Behind the scenes, countless people work to make sure that all the pieces come together, supporting our team and our customers every step of the way.
Today, you’ll still see many of the same faces you might remember from our earlier locations. Some of our team members have been with U-Fab for years, growing right alongside the company and becoming familiar faces to generations of customers.
And then there are our customers.
We don’t take lightly the trust people place in us when they invite us into their homes, ask us to help with a room they’ve been dreaming about, or come to us with their unfinished ideas for guidance on bringing them to life.
Some of our customers have been with us since the early days on Robinson Street. Others have found us more recently and become part of the U-Family in their own way. We’ve watched families grow, helped furnish new homes, worked on projects that have taken years to complete and been invited back to help with the next room.
Over the years, those relationships have become one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. They remind us that our work is about more than the furniture, fabric or finished product. It’s about creating the most important place there is: your home.
That personal approach has stayed with us through every move, every new chapter, and ten beautiful years on Broad Street.

What’s Next
The past ten years on Broad Street have been a remarkable chapter for U-Fab, but we’re even more excited about what lies ahead.
We’re looking forward to continuing to build on what we’ve created here, growing U-Fab alongside our sister brand, Curated Furnishings, and continuing to serve the Richmond community for years to come.
We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come and so grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey.
