I do not have the words to describe the complete admiration I have for this next home tour and their lovely family. Located an hour and half from our home base, we were invited to bring our entire family while my husband installed the massive draperies in the family room of this gorgeous coastal estate. When I scratched my head at the thought of my 14 month old and 3 year old boys torpedoing through a customer’s home, my husband reassured me, this was a family we would want to meet and they wanted to meet us. Our children connected instantly and I knew he was right, memories and friendships were made on this fine day.
I spent most of the day with Carter, the beautiful refined and hospitable grandmother who lives in an attached guest house. She toured us around the property, prepared a gourmet lunch and provided great conversation in and out of children monitoring, beach lounging and bike riding. I spotted an eagle flying over head, and Carter just smiled and said it’s just another thing that makes their home so special. It truly was like being in paradise. When I asked Carter to provide me with some history of the property, here is what she sent me.
“Holly Point” is an 18-acre peninsula two hours south of Washington, DC.
We enjoy a splendid sense of isolation with tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay on three sides and an internationally rare coastal pine forest on the fourth. Beginning in the 1920’s, my father visited often to hunt this land. He bought it in 1946. and for a time we used it for weekends and summers.
Today “Holly Point” is home to three generations of family living simply in two connected but separate houses. The houses are designed to be viewing boxes on a natural world that changes daily with time and tide and seasonally with the antics of abundant wildlife in woods, water, and sky all around. Though nothing ever happens, there is always something going on, and we have a front row seat to it all.
We feel rich beyond measure to live in this place that time forgot.
If that doesn’t paint the most beautiful picture of paradise, allow me to walk you through a visual of their lovely home tour.
Does this paint a clearer picture of this fabulous family friendly home? I love the functionality, the mixture of classic, modern and coastal themes. These home owners are not afraid of pattern, color or risks, and I believe they have paid off in the best of ways.
No thank you card or blog post could ever express the feelings I genuinely have for the warm welcoming hospitality and relaxing southern comfort I felt when meeting this family. But I will say it anyway, thank you to Kenzie, Brian, Lorri, Charlie & Carter for welcoming us into your sanctuary and sharing your fabulous eclectic style with our readers.
