We decided that we want to do home tours for the staff as well as our fabulous customers. So when Travis and I got to Our Backyard in this month’s R-Home. We figured we’d kick off the U-Fab employee tours, with ours, the grateful owners of this fine company.
We created this entry way in our very long living room. We know it’s a bit of an eye-soar, but boy does it function. A bench to pop bags on, take our shoes off and lots of storage for our coats, shoes and hats. I converted our two tier coffee table into a second bench/shoe storage, an old mail sorter into a scarf holder, and we have a mirror with hooks for baby coats that we want easy access to.
Here’s the view of the living room from the front door. We created a giant frame to display fabric on and love our mix of mid-century furniture with U-Fab Fabrics. The exception, is that black and white chair that was re-done by my grandmother several decades ago in that great floral print. I could never change that.
From this view of our living room, you can see our fantastic bay window, mid-century daybed sectional and the lane cedar chest we converted into a toy box. You may recognize those two giant light boxes, we inherited them from EQ3 Carytown when Travis closed that store. They put off a lot of light, which is great since we don’t have overhead lighting in this room.
We redid the vanity in this bathroom. Before it was an early 90’s cream colored shell. We stripped that off, added a wood counter top from Ikea, and a $5 sink I picked up at a yard sale. And Wah-lah. A functional beautiful vanity that compliments the earthy tones in the tile.
Enter into the nursery! We have a vintage postage stamp theme complete with old suitcases for storage. We built that entire back wall of shelves, complete with a screen track system that we can close it up and hide the clutter when we want. You also can see a gimps of an antique metal dresser Travis sanded the enamel off of, to give it an industrial feel.
Atop the dresser a few of our favorite things for our son, Richmond.
We’ll skip the other bedrooms (need some work there!) and take you back to the Kitchen. We re-painted our cabinets, added new hardware a wooden counter top, new lighting and installed a backsplash. We love the way it all turned out and it’s a very functional space to work in with the over-sized island.
We hope you enjoyed touring our house, and we can’t wait to bring you more tours of the rest of our staff’s homes. Stay tuned!
